Here you'll get an overview of your road trip in Portugal. Remember that the route is only a suggestion, and you can design your road trip as you wish. Get in touch if you want some great tips on how to plan your road trip best.
We've secured your first nights of accommodation when you arrive in Lisbon. You'll stay at Selina Hostel in the center of the city, and what better place to kick off your Portugal adventure!
Note that the city is all about walking or taking the tram. This of course gives you some great excercise (who doesn't need that?) and obviously some spectacular sights, once you reach the top of the hills. Lisbon is very beautiful and boasts an impressive food scene as well.
From Lisbon you'll find your way to the cozy beach town, Peniche. A town that attracts surfers and epicures. Chill by the seaside, check out the narrow side streets or test yourself on a surf board. Not only is this town extremely picturesque it also comes with the most relaxed beach vibe. A few things you might wanna check out would be the small walled city Óbidos, the island Baleal or the rocky area Praia da Consolacao.
From Peniche to Coimbra you'll find the epic old Monastary Heritage Route. Along this route you'll get a chance to pay a visit to the 3 UNESCO protected towns Alcobaca, Batalha and Tamor. Make sure you have time to check out the old monstaries that these cities are famous for. A stroll in the town center is also obligatory once you've parked your camper. You could consider to find a camp site somewhere in between Peniche and Coimbra to make sure you have enough time to explore all three towns.
It's time for some more urban settlements as you arrive in beautiful Coimbra located by the Mondego River. It's also here you'll find Portugal's oldest university which with it's student population gives the city a youthful vibe. Aside from being quite a student hub, Coimbra is also full of cultural sights and beautiful architechture if that's your thing. Enjoy a few days in this truly buzzing city.
Last stop on this suggested road trip is Porto, which is home the delicious port wine (don't drink and drive!). The city is divided by the Duoro River, and there's plenty of cozy spots along the banks of the river where you enjoy your morning coffee or the afternoon drink. The city boasts an impressive art scene and if you want to practice your dance moves there's a hefty nightlife here as well. Drop off your camper in Porto or save your one way fee and drive it back to Lisbon after a few days.'
If you need help with your accommodation in Porto, we can hook you up with our favorite hostel in the city, Selina. Just let us know!
