This adventure trip is for those who want to experience the stunning Maldives without going on group tours, but rather enjoy the beaches and crystal clear water at their own leisurely pace. Your package includes B&B accommodation, and the use of the necessary water toys to get you off on your own adventures: Kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and snorkeling equipment. Head off to the snorkeling reefs, an isolated little sandbank without even a footprint on it or a neighbouring island, it depends only on your appetite for adventure!

Thulusdhoo is a destination that brings together the best of the Maldives: the laid back local island vibe, beautiful beaches, hammocks between palm trees and good diving. What makes Thulusdhoo different from other great destinations, is a strong environmental focus and the work that is being done to re-establish coral on reefs that have been damaged during the coral bleaching event that occurred in 2016 in the Maldives and elsewhere. A unique aspect of Thulusdhoo is that many guesthouses line the beach, all with their hammocks and chillout spaces creating one of the best beach vibes available in the Maldives. Being a surfing destination as well means that Thulusdhoo is a mecca for the young, fit and active crowd, so you will fit right in!

Thulusdhoo is an island known for diving and surfing, within 30 minutes of the capital Male. A beautiful beach with palm trees and a turquoise lagoon is the view of a number guesthouses that line the beach, with their cafes, swinging chairs and hammocks gracing the beach. This is as liberal as the Maldives gets, with the surfing crowd and the diving crowd living side by side on the beach. One block away is the real Maldives, the local village with its steady, slow pace of life, white sandy streets and green plants everywhere. It is all very pretty! For those wanting to sunbathe, there are sunbeds on the beach in front of the guesthouses, free to use, and bikinis are OK.
The Kayaking, snorkeling and paddleboarding are done independently, and at your own risk. You will be introduced to the local environment, currents and points of interests at the dive center.

Paddleboarding:
Have you ever been on a Stand-Up paddleboard? It is FUN! We highly recommend that you go practise from the beach, where there is no waves and shallow water. In general, we recommend that you keep the paddleboard in shallow water, if you are new at this activity. But once you got it down, get information from your dive center on where to go.

Kayaking:
The island of Thulusdhoo is small, and could easily be paddled around. However, it does also have some of the best surfspots in the world, and you do not want to be caught surfing your kayak on these world famous waves. So again, make sure you get a good introduction of where to go, and what currents to look out for, before you jump in your kayak!
The Mangrove forest is recommended. You can sneak in really close on the wildlife.

Snorkeling:
There are so many different things you can see, snorkeling from the island of Thulusdhoo! If you go out from the long wooden pier, or the big rock boulders on the Northeast coast, you can often be so lucky to see the eagle rays fly by in formation. Especially around sunset, is a hectic time at this point.
For something different, try snorkeling in the little mangrove lagoon in the Southeast around sunset. If you move very slow, you might be able to get close to the small baby sharks hanging out in this area. (they are very shy)

Beaching:
Bikinis are absolutely okay at the beachfront, where suntaning beds and hammocks are up for grabs. We can recommend the food at Canopus guesthouse, and they have tables literally on the beach.

Sunsets:
Go around the corner from the dive center, and you will find yourself on a long stretch of land, running next to the ocean. This place is awesome for sunsets! Look for baby sharks in the water, go running or join a game of football with the locals.

DIVE PACKAGE:

Itinerary - 5 days and 4 night - Independent adventurer
Day 1: Arrive Male and hop on a speed boat to Thulusdhoo. Sea Retreats Dive Centre will make your booking to Thulusdhoo and provide all details necessary for your transfer. You will be met at the harbour on arrival and taken to your guesthouse. Take a dip in the ocean or stroll around the island until evening time when it is time to check in with the Dive Centre to get an intro talk of where to go and what to do.

Day 2, 3 and 4: After breakfast, choose your mode of transport (Kayak or Paddleboard) pack some snacks, camera and sunscreen, and paddle off to a snorkeling reef, a nearby island or a solitary sandbank.

Soak up the sun in a sun lounger, swing in a hammock and sip a fruit juice in the sunset, until you seriously consider to miss your outward flight and carve souvenirs to just stay on the island forever!

Day 5: If you can track down any remaining sense of responsibility, resist the urge to build a shanty on the beach and catch a speedboat to the airport/Male for your next destination.

Please allow a minimum of 24 hours, after your last dive, before flying.
(some countries will allow you to fly after 18 hours on land).
