Ericeira is well renowned for its good waves and many breaks and you can always find a suitable spot, both for beginners and experienced surfers. The following is an example of a regular week at the surf camp.
Arrival day. Check in at the camp and make yourself at home, go for a walk on the beach, check out the town, cruise the streets with a longboard or simply just chill on one of our terraces overlooking the Atlantic ocean. Our camp manager will welcome you at the camp and inform you about the week to come. Get to know the other guests during dinner that's served at the camp or try out one of the many restaurants in town.
We wake up and have breakfast and assess the conditions for the day. You will be assigned to your instructor and divided into groups depending of your level of surfing. Once on the beach, the class will start with an equipment and safety introduction and then we will start working on paddling and pop-ups: the basics of surfing a wave. After a 2-hour lesson, join in for some yoga to stretch out those sore muscles. Dinner for all guest is organized at one of our favorite restaurants, if you want to join that is, if not there are plenty of more options in town.
We’ll do a run-through of the day while the coffee is kicking in and then drive to where we’re surfing. The instructors will have a briefing and warm up before we surf as much as we can and finish with a summary of the lesson. After hours in the water you’re tired, the level of endorphins are high and it’s time for lunch. After lunch we visit one of the local surfboard shapers to understand how surfboards are made and maybe you feel so inspired that you want to buy your first surfboard. Later join us for dinner at the camp and grab a beer at the bar and brag about your first waves to your newly found friends.
Breakfast and then off to the beach. By now you are feeling comfortable with the board and the waves. The more waves you catch, the faster you will develop. Every day there are new things to learn. Knowing the rules and the code of conduct is a big part of being safe in the water. In the afternoon you are welcome to join in for some wine tasting at a beautiful Vineyard 30 minutes from the camp. Later it’s time for dinner and sunset party at the beach.
Lay day. The early risers may want to fit in a yoga session or enjoy the sunrise before breakfast, while others may prefer to go straight to the breakfast buffet. Today there is no lesson so it’s time to rest your body and check out the capital city of Lisbon and its many sights. For those who are really keen to go surfing can of course grab their board and spend the day in the water instead.
Breakfast, surf, sun, fun and in the afternoon we organize the famous volleyball tournament. You don’t want to miss that.
Last day of your surfing week. By this stage you are up and riding and you feel comfortable. Your body is feeling stronger, you are catching more waves and you don't get as tired. You now have a very good foundation of what surfing is about, both in theory and in practice. Usually we do a huge barbeque on the last night to celebrate an epic week.
Check-out. This is the sad part. It’s over for now. You need to have your things removed from the room before 10:00 but after that you can still hang out and relax at the camp until you are ready to leave.
The schedule and program are subject to change without prior notice according to weather, waves and other factors.
Extra expenses at the destination
There are a lot of things to do in and around Ericeira and we can help out with most of them. Close to Ericeira you can go for wine tasting, visit the world heritage site of Sintra or the capital city of Lisbon with many fine attractions to see during a half or full day trip. Ericeira has many surf shops and small boutiques for those looking for new board shorts, or why not some Portuguese ceramic ware. The town also has a very nice skate park and good roads for longboarding.
Camp Lizandro is built for having a great time. It sits on a cliff within walking distance to both the town and beach and has a spectacular view. The camp consists of multiple houses all with a great vibe. There are plenty of things to do at the camp. Get a sweat going on the volleyball court or training area, relax in the movie room, cool off in the swimming pool, or just relax after surf in one of the multiple chill-out areas or enjoy the great view.
Mini-bus. Transfer from the airport to the camp is not included in the price.
