Student life in Adelaide

Adelaide is one of the world´s most liveable cities and a great and affordable city to study in as an international student. The city centre is surrounded by 29 parks, the famous parklands, and in the city centre itself, you´ll find 'parklets' (small public parks). In addition to being a very green city, Adelaide is also a city that loves to party. Adelaide loves to party

As an international student at the University of South Australia, you´ll enjoy the lively vibe in Adelaide. South Australia has a thriving arts scene and is called Festival State due to the large number of festivals taking place every year. This is especially the case during Mad March, when Adelaide hosts its biggest events and when the weather is at its best.

The popular Adelaide Fringe festival starts in February each year and lasts for about three weeks! Every evening there are concerts, dance -, cabaret -, theatre - and comedy shows all over the city and you will see everyone outside in the streets watching artists, musicians and comedians.

Studying in Adelaide has its advantages! For instance, living in Adelaide doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket. The city is among the cheapest Australian cities to study in!

Beaches in Adelaide

With 3,700 kilometres of coastline, South Australia offers many stunning, white and uncrowded beaches where you can enjoy the long, warm summer. You can get from the city campus to the nearest beach in only 15 minutes! West Beach, Henley Beach and Semaphore Beach are all close by. So is Glenelg Beach, which is a popular weekend destination with many restaurants, cafes and a sandy, white beach. Would you like to swim with wild dolphins, go diving or snorkelling? Go to Glenelg Beach! 

Climate in Adelaide

Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters. Summer in Adelaide is from December to February with temperatures between 25-35°C. Winter is from June to August with moderate rainfall and temperatures between 10-15°C.

4 things you can do for free in Adelaide

Before you start your studies or during the weekends and in holidays, you can explore the city. Here are some cool free activities in Adelaide:

  1. Walk along Adelaide’s most elegant boulevard, North Terrace; you´ll see the city’s most important cultural institutions like the State Parliament, Adelaide Casino, Art Gallery of South Australia and South Australian Museum.
  2. Visit the Botanical Gardens; it has some beautiful historic buildings, three striking glasshouses and admission is free.
  3. Make use of the Free City Connector bus service; you can visit one of the many key attractions, shopping and dining spots throughout the city.
  4. Do you own a bike? Then cycle along the Torrens Trail; you´ll love the fresh air!
