In Czech Republic you will find plenty of history, interesting culture and beautiful architecture. Not to mention good beer and the many great outdoor activities: skiing, trekking, natural spas, etc
The Czech Republic holds a lot of exciting experiences for travellers. Before visiting the fascinating capital Prague you should engage in a activity that the country is best known for: beer brewing. Don't miss out on a trip to the ancient beer halls in Pivnice for insights to the art of beer brewing. You should also visit the beautiful castle Renaissance Chateau in Palackeho near the town of Telc. You get there by bus from Prague.
Caves and spas
From the town of Beroun, located a 20-30 minutes drive from Prague, you can visit the fascinating limestone caves Koněprusy that are up to 600 meters deep. A very exciting experience and one of the highlights in the Czech Republic. Throughout the country you can stop by one of the Czech Republic's approximately 30 spa towns that offer relaxation in mineral-rich water and mud - it sounds funny, really, but it is a unique and relaxing experience.
The capital, Prague
One of the most popular and interesting capitals across Europe is the Czech capital, Prague. This historic and well-preserved medieval town is extremely charming and cozy, even though there are many tourists all year round. You can walk around in the quaint cobblestone streets and enjoy the beautiful architecture and the lovely Old Town Square. Visit one of the good, intimate restaurants and famous jazz clubs. Obviously, you have to visit Prague Castle, situated in the the old town. The castle is one of the largest in the world and is about 1,000 years old - and the view from the top is perfect. Also, Karlstein Castle just outside of Prague is definitely worth a visit.
Other towns and villages
Czech Republic is full of interesting towns and villages. If you are interested in history, you should visit a number of charming villages in the region of Moravia. Also, the region of Bohemia is attractive, with cities like Loket and Domazlice - and here are slightly fewer tourists than in Prague. In the slightly larger town of Olomouc you'll find the country's second largest university.
The city of Plzen is the home of famous Czech beer Pilsner. Even more famous is probably the city of Ceske Budejovice, where the world famous Budweiser beer comes from. Yes, it's true: this famous beer is not American origin; the US version of Budweiser is just a 'descendant' of the Czech brewing tradition. So of course you should taste a Budvar Lager, now you're here.
The town with the strange name Brno is also worth a visit. It takes about 2.5 hours to get here from Prague by bus, which is slightly faster than the train. Among the biggest attractions in this exciting city is Cathedral of SS Peter & Paul on Petrov Hill. Otherwise, you will find plenty of museums, galleries, great theaters and restaurants here. Brno's Railway Station is an important transportation link connecting the city with e.g. Bratislava in neighboring Slovakia, Prague and important capitals like Vienna, Budapest and Berlin.
Activities in Czech Republic
There is snow on the Czech mountains about 130 days a year, so there are plenty of opportunities to go skiing. The best ski resorts include Krkonose (the most popular), Pec Pod Snezkou, Zadov and Spindlerov Mlyn. And trust us; these places are just as good as the names are strange!
In the summer, you can go hiking in the great national parks, such as Sumava National Park. Or how about a canoe trip on the beautiful river Vltava? If you prefer something more thrilling, you might want to visit the impressive caves at Cescy Raj and Adrspach, where sandstone and limestone cliffs are ideal for climbing.
