A visit to Guiness brewery is also a must during your trip to Ireland! The country's proud and important company opens the doors to a whole world of beer production. Enjoy a sip of the dark tasty Guinness beer and a wonderful view!

Cities worth visiting in Ireland

Dublin is amazing but there's so much more to explore in the countryside of Ireland! A good way to see the mountain slopes, steep cliffs, small coastal towns and historic castles is to either rent a car or hop on a bus! Other popular cities in Ireland include Belfast, Cork, Galway, Kilkenny and Knock all of which have their own particular characteristics and atmospheres.

The Dingle Peninsula offers delightful small towns, romantic castles dating back 500 years in time and beautiful landscape. The colorful town of Dingle is known for the famous dolphin that lives in Dingle Bay.

Kilkenny Castle, built in 1192, is one of the most exciting forts in Ireland! Here you will find an extraordinarily fine art gallery. Kilkenny National Park is ideal for hiking and cycling in beautiful surroundings. In Cork county you will find the impressive Blarney Castle from 1446. The country's highest peak is Carrauntoohil, which extends 1041 m. Mt Brandon, situated in the Kerry county, is especially popular with walkers because you can climb to the top. The sweaty climb rewards you with stunning view of the sea and valleys!

When to go to Ireland?

The best tip we can give, is to pack a rain coat and warm sweater no matter when you go. It rains frequently! But the beauty of it is that you are never that far from a pub where you can take shelter and enjoy a fun atmosphere. June is a great time to visit Ireland; not so many tourists and decent weather. July and August are warmer, days are longer and most of the festivals take place during this time.

Getting around in Ireland

Public transport works very well in Ireland. Driving in Dublin can easily give you a bit of headache because of the crazy traffic. However in rural areas, cars are, as well as bikes, a great mode of transportation. Bicycle maps are very good and available everywhere, as well as bicycle paths.

Use DART buses and fast trains in Dublin. There are also many lovely canals, lakes and rivers to sail on. Most people fly to Dublin, but it is also possible to get there via London by train and bus. The journey takes about 12 hours from London.

KILROY's best travel tips
