Itinerary

Iquitos Amazon Jungle Adventure 3D/2N

Itinerary

Overview:

On day 1, get picked-up in Iquitos and depart from the port by fast boat for a 3-hour ride traversing the Amazon river to reach the jungle lodge. Head out on your Leoncito Hike to see amazing flora, monkeys and huge ceiba trees. On day 2, board a small boat on the Amazon River where you’ll get the chance to swim close to pink and gray dolphins. On day 3, go on a boat trip to Lake Sapote to look for different monkey and bird species before your 3 hour boat transfer back to Iquitos.

Day by Day Itinerary:

Day 1: Transfer Iquitos - Jungle Lodge & Activities in the Amazon Jungle (L/D)

Please arrive to Iquitos before 9:00 am today. Transfer from the airport arrivals lounge to Iquitos (or hotel to the office) for shopping and last-minute coordination. Transfer to the port for a fast 3-hour boat ride upriver from Iquitos on the Amazon River. Upon arrival, get settled in to your lodge and enjoy lunch.

Afterwards, go on the Leoncito Hike, where you appreciate the immense variety of flora around the lodge. On this walk you can taste the water that Uncaria tomentosa (cat's claw) has within its vines - some say it can cure cancer and AIDS. You'll also be amazed at how huge the ceiba tree is. In addition, you will see the world's smallest monkey, the pigmy marmoset, and the squirrel and tamarin monkeys. If you're lucky, you'll see the howler monkey, whose deafening roar can be heard many miles away. After watching a sunset over the forest of mirrors head back to Muyuna for dinner. In the evening, take a boat ride to see caimans, nocturnal birds and mammals.

Day 2: Activities in the Amazon Jungle (B/L/D)

Enjoy breakfast and then crusie the Amazon River, where you will experience the most magical moment of your trip, which is to swim in the same river where the pink and gray dolphins live. You can see them, but don't expect to touch. On the way back to the lodge, you will see the biggest aquatic plant in the world, the famous Victoria Regia. It is also easy to see iguanas.

Enjoy lunch at the lodge before going on a boat trip to the lakes Purura and Corrientes to catch different kinds of fish, including the famous piranha (being more difficult in March, April and May). After lunch, spot wild animals before taking your boat back to Iquitos. Go on a night walk in search of huge frogs, anaconda´s favorite food. In addition to seeing tarantulas, it is worth clarifying that despite their bad reputation, they are not dangerous to humans.

Day 3: Activities in the Amazon Jungle & Return to Iquitos (B/L)

After breakfast, go for a boat trip to Lake Sapote to see different birds like parrots, jacanas, kingfishers, herons, panguanas, partridges, pigeons, cormorants, horned screamers, orneros and then move to the other end of the Moena lagoon to see sloths and monkeys, squirrels and dusky titi monkeys, etc. After watching a sunset over the forest of mirrors, head back to the lodge for dinner. In the evening, enjoy a boat ride to see caimans, nocturnal birds and mammals.

Your experience of the jungle comes to an end and you will cruise three hours back to Iquitos and be dropped off at your hotel or the airport. Please plan to fly out of Iquitos after 6pm.

Additional Information:

Note: Passengers will need to arrive in Iquitos before 9:00 am on the day of the tour. In case of a later arrival, a private boat transfer will be available for S/.750 (one way). On the last day, please plan to fly out of Iquitos after 6pm. If you are flying out before, a private boat transfer will be available for S/.750 (one way).

What to bring: Swimming suit, T-shirts or long sleeved shirts with a hood and light colored cotton (the darkness attracts mosquitoes!), Shorts, Long pants and thick enough so that mosquitoes cannot get through, T-shirts, Socks for use with boots, Fresh nightwear, Rubber boots for walking (you can buy or rent in the Iquitos office or shops in Iquitos and cost approx. S/.25.), Tennis Shoes for use during night boat ride, Sandals to walk in the lodge, A hat that gives plenty of shade, Sunglasses, Repellent (only need to use it for walks, try not to use it much because it leaves their toxins in the environment - we recommend protecting with clothing), Sunscreen, A flashlight, A bag for dirty clothes, Rain poncho (can be bought at the office at a very cheap price), Binoculars, A good book, Camera and a plastic bag for them, Small backpack to carry insect repellent, water, etc. during excursions.

Recommendations: Please bring a small bag with the necessary clothing and equipment for this trip only. There is limited space in the boat so please leave your large luggage at the office in Iquitos. Note: There is no cell-phone service near Muyuna.

Accommodation: The Muyuna Lodge is built on stilts in the heart of the jungle. The rooms are lit with kerosene lamps and protected by mesh screens which cover the windows and roof. Single, double, matrimonial, and family bungalows are available. Each room has a full ensuite bathroom and a terrace accompanied with a hammock to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. There is no cell signal but constant communication with Iquitos is possible through radio.
