Itinerary

Southern BLT from New York

Days 1-2 New York Area, Philadelphia & Washington, DC

Leave the New York area and travel to Philadelphia where you can climb the famous 'Rocky' steps for your own movie moment, and see the iconic symbol of American independence, the Liberty Bell. Head to Reading Terminal Market on an empty stomach and be prepared to be overwhelmed with delicious smells and flavours. Before you leave make sure you tuck into a famous Philly cheesesteak lunch. Then it's on to Washington DC for an introduction to the political, social and cultural history of the USA. Take time to explore America's capital city by people watching in one of the many green parks, discovering the famous monuments or exploring the Smithsonian National Museums. There's plenty of trendy neighbourhoods to check out by night, head to Dupont Circle for its celebrated nightlife or get down to Georgetown for cool bars and eateries.

Days 3 Virginia

Touch down in the gorgeous pine-clad foothills of the Appalachian Mountain range. The scenery is beautiful and it's also home to the American Black Bear and a former haunt of the Cherokee Indians.

Days 4-5 Nashville

Up next it's Nashville, Tennessee - the shining star of the country music scene. You've seen the hit TV show, now experience it for yourself. Laze in the city's parks, hit the museums, hear live music in one of the many Broadway bars or learn to line dance - the opportunities are endless!

Days 6 Memphis

Memphis is the birthplace of rock ??n' roll, and you won't want to miss out on an optional visit to Sun Studio, where the likes of Johnny Cash and BB King recorded some of their most famous records, and for blues music around every corner, head to Beale Street. You won't want to go home without a trip to Graceland, the former home of 'The King of rock ??n' roll', Elvis Presley. If you're wanting a little more than just some bluesy beats from your trip to Memphis, there's much more to the city's history. Pay a visit to the National Civil Rights Museum located in the former Lorraine Hotel and see the place where Martin Luther King was assassinated.

Days 7-8 New Orleans

You're well and truly in America's Deep South, so embrace those laid-back vibes because life moves at a much slower pace here - New Orleans is known as the 'Big Easy' after all. Why not spice up your trip with lip-smacking Cajun and Creole fare, ride a steamboat on the Mississippi River or relax to the sounds of Dixieland jazz in the French Quarter. People watch over deep fried beignets at Cafe du Monde, or for a really authentic Southern experience check out a ??Voodoo and Graveyard' tour! When the sun goes down, check out the jazz clubs of Frenchmen Street, hear the real deal in Preservation Hall, or head for the notorious nightlife of Bourbon Street. Whatever you choose, you'll have a blast.

Days 9 Louisiana

Enjoy an included swamp tour into the alligator habitat of southern Louisiana and see all sorts of wildlife in the mysterious wetlands of Cajun country. This is a long drive day so make sure your music playlist is up to date.

Days 10-11 Austin

Austin has exploded as the ??live music capital of the world' and you'll soon see why. Head to South Congress where some of the best street performers can be found, along with lively outdoor cafes and great boutiques. Grab a pair of cowboy boots at Allens Boots and head to the nearest Honky Tonk for a Texas Twostep session. During the day you can find some beautiful areas to relax, including Barton Springs and the trails around Lady Bird Lake, where you can laze around and watch the stand-up paddle boarders. Alternatively settle those food cravings with BBQ, Tex-Mex or food truck infusions. The night comes alive on Sixth Street, littered with bars and party goers. Or head to Rainy street, a quirky imitation of suburbia.

Days 12 Lubbock

Next up is another Texas gem, home to world class barbeque and the armadillo, though sadly no holiday armadillos! Get to grips with Lubbock's thriving arts scene, visit the West Texas Walk of Fame or catch a flick at the classic Stars and Stripes movie drive in.

Days 13 Santa Fe

With 325 days of sunshine per year plus some of the best Tex-Mex food in the USA, Santa Fe won't disappoint. For all the art lovers out there, visit Canyon Road which is home to art galleries, cultural treasures such as hand-woven Navajo rugs, historic adobe buildings and a vibrant restaurant scene. Head over to Meow Wolf, for a wonderfully weird immersive art experience set in a nondescript building, bound to leave you totally baffled.

Days 14 Monument Valley

You're on the road again, and you're off to one of North America's most iconic landscapes. Hollywood has helped put this place on travel bucket lists the world over. You may recognise Monument Valley from countless Western movies, or from the movie ??Forrest Gump'! Immerse yourself in the native culture on an optional guided jeep tour of the Navajo Reservation and backroads, hear your Navajo hosts speak in their native tongue and be blown away by their warm hospitality. Marvel at the sight of towering buttes and mesas which dominate the awe-inspiring landscape during the day, and the vast blanket of stars overhead when the sun goes down.

Days 15 Grand Canyon National Park

Make your way to the mighty Grand Canyon National Park. Nothing you've ever seen before will prepare you for this spectacular sight, it will simply take your breath away. Take an optional helicopter flight for the ultimate bird's-eye view and marvel at the brilliant colours from overhead. Or hike the impressive rim trails. To really see the Grand Canyon in all its glory, catch a sunset or sunrise when the colours really do amaze!

Days 16-17 Route 66 & Las Vegas

En route to Las Vegas you'll drive along a section of Historic Route 66, stopping at the town of Seligman, joyfully frozen in time and full of quirky Americana. Grab a root beer and have a look around! Next it's on to ??Sin City' itself - and there's nowhere else on earth quite like it! Feel like a celeb on an included party bus and then treat yourself to a show, indulge in an all-you-can-eat buffet, or just watch the amazing crowds and neon signs as the glitzy hotels try to outdo each other with spectacular attractions. If that's not enough, you can always take an optional helicopter flight down The Strip. If you're still left wanting more, head on over to a chapel and get hitched by the one and only Elvis. Don't worry, it's not legally binding, but the folks back home don't know that, so just imagine their surprise!

Days 18-19 San Diego

Head to San Diego  for some seriously laid-back vibes and powder white sand beaches. There's loads to keep you busy in this awesome West Coast city. Laze in grassy Balboa Park, or show off your skills by renting some rollerblades or a surfboard. You're in paradise so don your shades and soak up some rays. Later, explore the Gaslamp Quarter and experience the heart of San Diego's nightlife.
