Buenos Aires Colourful capital of Argentina
Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina is known for its gorgeous colonial architecture. Walking the streets and squares here feels like a journey back in time. But there's more culture to enjoy. The colourful La Boca neighborhood is a joy to see, and so is San Telmo with it's cobblestone streets and food market. Another thing Buenos Aires is famous for, is the abundance of street art throughout the different boroughs. It only adds to the charm and colours of the city, and you can do a street art walking tour if you want to. At the end of the day, plop down at one of the bars at Plaza Serrano for some well-deserved drinks. Oh, and may we suggest trying one of the many Argentinian barbecue places?
Puerto Madryn Whales, penguins and a stunning coastline
Puerto Madryn is the best location for spotting marine life in Patagonia. It's the gateway to the Valdes peninsula, a nature reserve home to elephant seals, penguins, sea lions and whales. This and the stunning cliffs and sandy beaches are the main reason for visiting, though the Welsh town of Gaiman is interesting for the history buffs. Our tip: go to Punta Tombo, a must-visit for who loves cute little penguins (that's everyone right?!). With almost a million penguins, this colony is the biggest outside of Antarctica and definitely the best place to see them in Patagonia.
El Calafate Ice ice baby
El Calafate is another one of those gateway towns, this time to the Los Glacieres National Park. You're here to see the many glaciers, including the Petito Moreno glacier. Close to the Chilean border, this area is part of the Austral Andes which guarantees some mean looking but stunning mountains in the background of all your pictures. It's not just the Petito Moreno that will catch your eye, we recommend also do one of the many hikes to see more of the glaciers and lakes in the area.
Ushuaia Journey to the end of the world
Tierra del Fuego, or Fire Island in English, is an archipelago that is strangely shared between Chile and Argentina, with only the most eastern part being part of Argentina. The port of Ushuaia is where the expeditions to Antarctica depart, but there's the conveniently named Tierra del Fuego national park nearby which features bright blue lakes and stunning views. To get there, you can take the ''end of the world'' train. End of the world is the moniker that's being used for the entire region, and it's quite fitting as Ushuaia prides itself on being the southernmost city in the world. Plenty of reasons for a visit, we'd say! Conveniently, there's also an airport. from where we'll take you onwards to Buenos Aires again.
Buenos Aires Back to the capital
Final destination: Buenos Aires! How great is it to spend a couple more days in town, enjoying the great Argentinian BBQ for a little longer, and finishing off whatever sights you still want to see. Maybe pop over to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay with the ferry, or explore the lovely beaches along the Argentinian coast before flying home, or continuing your adventure elsewhere.
