Start out easy by meeting the group you will be traveling with for a few nights in one of our favorite backpacking destinations, Sydney. Get to know the city and explore all the cool neighborhoods. In Sydney you have to go to the beautiful beaches where Bondi, Manly, Narrabeen and Congee are some of the best. You should also enjoy the sight at the harbor and the Opera House - cliché but it's still nice to walk along the harborfront!
You're traveling from Sydney to Byron Bay with other backpackers and from day 4-6 the main purpose is for you to master the waves on a surfboard. You'll spend most of the days in the surf camp, where you'll have included lessons each day. Spend all your energy during the day, and chill in the surf camp at night with all the other backpackers here.
Bring out your flip-flops, because now it's time for an extraordinary beach adventure. You're continuing your trip with the group and first stop is Surfers Paradise, where you can chill by the beach during the day and party in the evening. After a few days here, you head further North to Brisbane which is the capital of the Queensland territory. You really get to enjoy the mix of beach vibes and big city during these days.
After Brisbane you continue north to Noosa Everglades & Fraser Island A nice combination of inland rivers and beautiful beaches. You get the chance to spend 3 days driving 4x4's around Fraser Island. Chill in Champagne Pool, float down River Eli Creek, Swim in Lake McKenzie and a ton of other fun activities.
Fraser Island sure is awesome, but you haven't seen anything yet, until you reach Whitsundays which is next. Absolutely amazing beaches and the most beautiful turqouise water. Google it if you don't believe us! Spend 3 days and 2 nights sailing around in the Great Barrier Reef sunbathing, snorkeling, relaxing, spotting marine life... Well, just enjoying life to be completely honest.
First stop in this area is Magnetic Island, where you get to spend 2 days in this tropical paradise. Check out the hidden beaches, hike up historic Forts Walk or spot wild koalas while strolling around. After Magnetic Island you continue to Mission Beach which is famous for it's many adventure options. If you're brave enough you can opt in for a skydive over Great Barrier Reef or some rafting on the Tully River.
Last stop on this trip is Cairns with it's lush and adventurous surroundings. Once again you get to sail and go snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef. There will also be an excursion to Atherton Tablelands where you can swim under waterfalls and dormant volcano craters. This is the perfect place to finish this adventure tour with your fellow backpackers. And by the end of your stay in Cairns there will be a nice farewell dinner so you can end your trip in style!
Welcome to Bali! Upon arrival at Denpasar Airport, you'll be taken to the trendy surf town of Canggu. Relax and unwind for two nights in a laid-back hostel, just minutes from the beach. Canggu is known for its vibrant surf culture, hip cafes, and stunning sunsets. Spend your days catching waves, lounging on the beach, or exploring the local shops and restaurants.
After two days of soaking in the cool vibes of Canggu, it's time to set off on your own Bali adventure, backpacker style. Start by visiting the famous Tanah Lot Temple, perched on a rock formation in the sea. Head north to Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali, where you can wander through the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, explore the art markets, and marvel at the Tegalalang Rice Terraces.
Don't miss the chance to hike Mount Batur for a breathtaking sunrise view, and take a dip in the hot springs nearby. For a taste of Bali's underwater world, make your way to Amed or Nusa Lembongan for snorkeling and diving in crystal-clear waters. In Uluwatu, you'll find dramatic cliffs and some of the best surf spots on the island, as well as the stunning Uluwatu Temple where you can catch a traditional Kecak dance performance at sunset. There's loads to do in Bali, so grab your backpack, hit the road, and discover the magic of Bali on your own terms!
If you're not into group traveling, and would like to go by yourself, an alternative would be to go by bus. Greyhound has a ton of opportunities, so if you want to enjoy the flexibility of the most popular hop on/hop off bus pass in Australia this is the obvious choice. For this particular trip from Sydney to Cairns, we would recommend the 30 day Whimmit pass, which will give you plenty of time to enjoy the East Coast properly. Reach out if you want more information about the Greyhound bus passes, and we'll find one that suits your needs.
