Start your adventure in the capital of Western Australia, know as the world's most isolated "big city. For you that means less tourists and more cool and cultural experiences, which is what backpacking is all about, right? Here you'll get to experience and unique stay at Fremantle Prison, built in the 1850's. We've included 2 nights here which should be enough for you to explore the city on your own. But you can of course choose to stay longer if you want.
In Perth you can enjoy wine, art and beautiful rivers. If we were you we would also take a trip to Rottnest Island where you'll find incredible nature and beaches.
Pick up your campervan that we've included for 2 weeks and head out on a road trip to explore national parks, sandy beaches, small towns and amazing food along the west coast of Australia. If you're excited about traveling 'off the beaten track' you'll absolutely love this. Spectacular nature in Kalabarri National Park, the marine life at Ningaloo Reef, Eigthy Mile Beach and the charming little town Broome are just a few highlights worth mentioning for your road trip.
You fly from Perth to Adelaide and when you get here you can choose to stay here for a few more days to explore the capital city of South Australia, or jump on the included 18 day group tour right away. The group tour takes you alle the way up through the center of Australia until you reach Darwin, and we promise you that you'll have a great time! The tour ends up in Darwin from where you'll fly to Cairns on the East Coast.
Next stop is Cairns, where we have included 3 nights in a really cool party hostel. In Cairns you'll get to experience the Great Barrier Reef and all it's marine wonders on a half day tour that takes you to two different snorkel spots, each with an extraordinary array of marine life and coral species. If you're lucky you spot a sea turtle along with eagle rays, giant clams and starfish. This is definitely a highlight of the trip!
We've included a bus pass in this itinerary which smoothly and comfortably takes you all the way from Cairns down to Melbourne with several wonderful stops along the way. Our suggestion is a 60 day bus pass but you can opt in for shorter if you'd like.
Your East coast adventure continues and next up is the magical Whitsundays Islands, which you get to experience with a group of other backpackers. Board a sailboat where you'll spend the next two days at sea snorkeling at Caves Cove and visiting Whitehaven Beach, known as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world (true story !). All meals are freshly prepared onboard and and you'll spend the days living your best life while cruising on the Coral Sea.
Fraser Island equals lots of adventures! Explore the world’s largest dune island in a 4WD. You'll travel for 3 days together with other like-minded travelers. And then we have included both a pre and post night in Noosa, since you're leaving early morning. During the 3 day tour you'll get to drive around the island visiting stunning Rainbow Beach, Hook Point and Lake McKenzie famous for it's blue water and white beaches. You'll also visit Eli Creek, the largest freshwater creek on the Eastern Coast of the Island and the popular swimming hole Champagne Pools. But there's much more to see - so you can already build up the hype now!
Spend 5 days learning to surf at our secret surf location, Spot X, where you'll meet other backpackers and get to enjoy the Aussie lifestyle at the beach. A typical day starts with breakfast at 07:00 followed by a 2 hours surf lesson. In the afternoon you're free to play beach volleyball, cricket, football or juts kick-back and relax in a hammock or at the beach. We can almost say with certainty that after a few days here you made new friends and learned how to master the waves like a pro!
When you're going down the coast we recommend that you stop for a few days in Sydney. That's why we have included 3 nights in one of our favorite hostels here and then it's up to you to explore the city on your own. You can stay longer if you want, just let us know.
Melbourne is the final stop of this travel suggestion. Of course you can continue onwards to New Zealand, Fiji or something third. Again, we have included 3 nights in a great hostel in Melbourne which gives you optimal conditions for exploring this vibrant city. Make sure to check out the street art in all the small narrow side streets and don't miss out on a good night out in one the city's many bars and nightclubs.
