Australia's west coast is made for road trips. Thousands of kilometers of sand, sun and surf, adding in cute small towns, amazing food and an abundance of experiences. A road trip on the west coast isn't something that a lot of people have done, do you want to go 'off the beaten track'?

This road trip gives you a little bit of everything and showcases some of the absolute best spots in Western Australia. National parks, natural spas, ancient structures, white sandy beaches, and tons of marine life - get ready for an epic adventure!

We've included a campervan in this road trip, but you can change it to a rental car if you'd like, the choice is yours! It's also good to mention that when you're renting a car abroad, make sure to have your travel insurance in order. Don't have one yet? No worries - we can help you out with that.

Please note: Between 01DEC and 31MAR it is not possible to drop off the campervan in Broome due to low season. We recommend that you travel on other dates or alternatively rent a car instead if you plan to travel in this period.

Well, we always encourage our travelers to be curious. To open up, and to embrace the unexpected. Stop where you can, go down the narrow side street and don’t get stuck in the camper. Don’t just drive for the sake of driving. Approach new people. Approach new ways of doing things. Explore and be open to changes – that’s where the magic happens.

Perth

Perth is the largest city in Western Australia and has a relaxed vibe, amazing food and a LOT of sun - what's not to like?! And when you’re road tripping in a campervan there are tons of places to camp. In fact, Perth is almost made for camping and BBQs and there are a lot of opportunities for day trips in the area. We recommend that you visit Freemantle, known for their creative citizens and hippies …

The Pinnacles

You'll find The Pinnacles in Nambung National Park about 200 km north of Perth. These tall structures, where some of them are up to 5 meters tall were created about 30.000 years ago when the water receded in this area and left a lot of shells. Since then, the wind has removed the sand around them and left these beautiful towers.

Kalbarri National Park

The coastal town of Kalbarri is popular amongst beach-lovers, because the beaches are protected by coves. Just a short drive from the city and you'll be in Kalbarri National Park, which is known for its red gorges and amazing view posts. Set your alarm early in the morning and watch the pelicans feed by the river. Maybe head out for a fishing trip or a river cruise? If you're the adventurous type you should test out kayaking, sandboarding, or quad bikes.

Monkey Mia & Shark Bay

Want to get up close and personal with the dolphins? At Shark Bay the cute dolphins are fed three times a day just outside of Monkey Mia. At Shark Bay you can also see fossils in the Hamelin Pool, see the red sand at Francois Peron National Park and spot turtles, sharks, and manta rays. If you’re more into a chill day at the beach, you could just spread out your beach towel on Shell Beach and enjoy life in this perfect setting.

Exmouth, Ningaloo Reef & Coral Bay

Beautiful coral gardens, white sandy beaches, and a laidback seaside location. hence the name, the top activities here include learning to dive in Ningaloo Marine Park and seeing the big 3; manta rays, whale sharks and humpback whales or hopping in a 4x4 buggy to secret beaches for incredible snorkeling. There are tons of watersports to do here and a lot of stuff to do on land. Ningaloo Reef is Australia’s most accessible coral reef and home to over 500 species of marine life. These are the best times to see these magnificant animals up close:

Manta Rays: All year round, but the best time would be between May & October
Whalesharks: You should aim for the period between April & September
Humpback Whales: Visit between August & November

Karijini National Park & Tom price

Karijini National Park in the heart of western Australia has been carved out over two billion years and creates a magical environment with freshwater pools, massive gorges, some of the oldest rock on the planet, waterfalls, and natural spas. You should spend at least three days here if you want to see all the main sights!

There are no gas stations in Karijini so make sure to get a full tank before heading into the park.

Port Hedland & Eighty Mile Beach

Eighty Mile Beach is located halfway between Broome and Port Hedland. The beach is about 220 kilometer long, so there's plenty of room! Its' one of the most important areas for wading birds in all of Australia. Popular activities here include beach fishing, camping, four-wheel driving, beachcombing, viewing wildlife and enjoying magnificent sunsets...

Broome

Broome isn't the biggest of town, but it has a lot to offer! Art galleries, museums, and Japanese and Chinese architecture ads a little something special to Broome. See dinosaur tracks at Gantheaume Point and get excited about the most beautiful sunsets you've ever seen, where the sun goes down into the Indian Ocean.
