San Francisco

Start your trip in beautiful San Francisco, where hippies and financiers live side by side. The city is full of contradictions, colorful personalities, culture, cool restaurants and cozy neighborhoods. Here you find a financial district, a hippie-town, China Town and Japan Town! Alcatraz is also worth a visit before jumping in the campervan and starting your road trip. Just remember to book your tickets well in advance, trust us - they do get sold out!

Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz is often referred to as one of the United States surfing capitals, so jump down to the beach and try the waves! Also check out the local "The Mystery Spot" where gravity does not seem to work properly. The local boardwalk is also filled with atmosphere, exquisite seafood restaurants and the sound of snoring sea lions!

Monterey Bay

Monterey Bay is a cozy small beach town with a great vibe. We recommend that you hang out here for a few days before moving on. If you want to see sea lions and otters in the open air, you should go to Fisherman's Wharf, where they often lay in the sun on rocks around the harbor. If you're a fan of wine, you can visit one of California's many vineyards.

Big Sur

Big Sur State Park is a real road trip attraction. The road through the park stretches along the dramatic coastal landscapes characterized by beautiful beaches, sea lions, sea elephants and one of the area's most iconic waterfalls - McWay Falls.

San Simeon, Hearst Castle & Morro Bay

San Simeon is famous for two things, that you should do when in this area. One is exploring the extravagant Hearst Castle, build by the former real estage magnate, William Randolph Hearst and the other is to go to San Luis Obispo and rent a dune buggy! When you've been to both, make sure you allow some time to check out the tide pools and sea life of San Simeon as well. End your stay in the area in Morro Bay - a small beachside town with great vibes, before you move further down the coast.

Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara is also known as "the American Riviera". Here you can go whale watching, go to the weekly arts and crafts market or go on a beer tasting at one of the many local breweries. You should also remember to go to the beach where you can rent a kayak or surfboard! The city is home to one of the coolest colleges in California, so the young and hip vibe in this beach town reflects the true Californian spirit.

Santa Monica & Los Angeles

Last stop on this itinerary is Los Angeles. We've included 3 nights in our favorite hostel at Venice Beach, so you can either decide to drop of the camper and explore the surroundings by foot, bike or one of the electric scooters. It's a nice way to get around in the nearby neighborhoods, whereas if you'd like to cover bigger distances in the city for instance to check out some of the fashionable areas such as Beverly Hills and Hollywood, a car would be a better solution. Don't miss the view from Griffith Observatory, where you'll get a splendid view over the city. Whether you want to go home after LA or continue the trip onwards is up to you, we'll help you out either way.

It doesn't get better. 800 km packed with great cities among amazing costal nature. Take a road trip on U.S. Highway 1 along the coast of California and visit San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Big Sur and Los Angeles. This is an experience of a lifetime.

Want a short, but sweet adventure along the west coast of USA, capturing all the good vibes California brings? Sure you do! We've created an adventure from San Francisco and down the iconic Highway 1 to Los Angeles. If you are hardcore you can do the trip in 1 day, but what's the fun in that? In this itinerary we've suggested all the best places to stop and absorb the surroundings along the coast. During this road trip you'll pass by Santa Cruz, Monterrey Bay, Santa Barbara, Malibu & Santa Monica just to mention some of the places. 

We've included a campervan in this road trip, but you can change it to a car if you'd like, the choice is yours! It's also good to mention that when you're renting a car abroad, make sure to have your travel insurance in order. Don't have one yet? No worries - we can help you out with that.
