There are many modern shopping malls, department stores and shops in Kiev. If you wish to bring souvenirs home, visit some of the local markets with Ukrainian crafts.

The range of eateries in Kiev is large. Try the Ukrainian specialties like beet root borschtj or the meaty dumplings pelmjeni. In addition to beer, wine and vodka, the Ukrainians drink a lot of fruit juice.
The weather in Kiev follows the seasons as we know it in northern Europe, but winter temeratires can drop to the extreme.
