My awesome time in college

"In Spring 2018 I studied at Santa Barbara City College. Before I left home, I did not know that this trip was going to be one of the best adventures I could have dreamed of."

My spontaneous decision

"The whole trip was so unplanned and a bit spontaneous, I literally decided to apply no more than 3-4 months before I sat on the plane on my way to Los Angeles airport, LAX.

It all started because I wanted to do something “crazy”, something I never thought I would do - travel to the other side of the world all by myself. My cousin told me about her friend that went to Santa Barbara to study, and that she had so many great experiences from there, so I wanted to do the same. The more I thought about Santa Barbara, the more I realized that this was something I really wanted to do, and a few days later I contacted KILROY."

Studying at Santa Barbara City College

"Santa Barbara City College is very adapted to international students, they really make you feel welcome. The first days of school they had events for international students, and took us on a tour of the school. The college is placed on a hill over the city and the sea, it´s a beautiful view, almost incomprehensible. I think Santa Barbara is a perfect city for students, the beach, the school, State street, good restaurants, kind people around you. A small city full of life. The city is also surrounded by big mountains and nature which makes the surroundings so beautiful. Those mountains are also perfect for hiking during days or watching the sunset in the evenings. The thing I loved about Santa Barbara was the variations of things you could do. One day you hung out at the beach and played volleyball or surfed. And the other day you were studying with some friends at school."

"A typical day in my “Santa Barbara life” started with me biking with my classmate at 9 am to our tennis class. The courts were placed outside, the morning sun was bright and warm, and a perfect start of the day. Our coach was also very funny and made jokes all the time, he gave me many laughs. After the tennis class me and my friends walked 2 minutes to the beach and took a swim in the ocean, sweaty as we were. We hung out at the beach and ate lunch. At 2 pm I had a photography class. It was a very fun class, we did a lot of cool stuff and I learned a lot about how to capture photos and tips and tricks. At 4 pm I was done with school and on my way home I stopped by the grocery store. The rest of the night was dependent on the mood or weather. Sometimes me and my friends took our bikes to State street for eating out or we did pasta night and watched a movie at home or went to the movies or went out dancing."

Traveling around California

"Except for the “Santa Barbara life”, me and my friends loved to explore new places around the West Coast. We often went on trips over the weekends, one of our first was to San Francisco. I loved it, it was so beautiful. We rented a car and drove along the West Coast and Highway 1. We stopped along the way in Big Sur and some other cool places close to the ocean.

During the first weeks in Santa Barbara I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to enjoy the moment and I felt like I was only visiting Santa Barbara. But as time went by I felt more and more at home, I felt that this was my home. I created my own life over there during 5 months, and I could really enjoy the moment and I really felt that Santa Barbara was my home

So many memories have been created during my months in Santa Barbara, memories I never will forget. I have created new friendships with fun people from the whole world. This is the best adventure I have ever done."
