Journalism and Communication studies in Sydney

"I travelled to Australia after completing high school in Sweden and remained in Sydney for quite some time. Despite the awareness of the cost to study a bachelor abroad, the decision felt natural as I already knew my way through the city and some of the universities. I chose UTS because of the location primarily but also because my stream, communication/journalism, had a great reputation.

As for the future, I am still as hopeful and openminded as I was prior to my decision. I am halfway through my degree and I can positively say that I have learned a lot, not only as a journalist, but as a person who is constantly growing. I hope my bachelor’s degree can take me further elsewhere around the world with these new skills, so I can meet people, whose stories need to be heard."

The awesome beach life in Australia

"A typical day at UTS is having 1 lecture and 2 tutorials twice a week. There are a lot of buildings available for the students, but my favourite would be either the library or the journalism editorial room. There are a lot of cafes in and around each building, so I am quite comfortable anywhere if I can be re-fuelled.

The one thing that I noticed while living in Sydney and visiting Stockholm was the completely different lifestyles and appreciation of life. Although it might sound profound, but here, near the beach, age does not matter and there are no restrictions on what your body is capable of. Men and women aged 60+ pass you in the surf or swim and they run aside you on the running tracks in the early AM’s or late PM’s. Despite the importance of having a career, it seems like lifestyle and free time is more important for most people here and that is why I love Australia so much."

How KILROY helped me

"So, when I decided to study overseas, I was aware of my surroundings and I already had a job and an apartment. However, KILROY helped me organise my student visa and all the protocols following applying for a university overseas. I had no previous experience with CSN either and was absolutely lost on how to apply for a student loan and how the process would work. I am extremely thankful for KILROY's guidance and realistic approach to what I was about to do."

I haven’t regretted my decision for one second!

"Before I applied, I searched for a lot of inspiration from other people, both online and chatting. I realised that most people that had studied overseas recommended it and most people that hadn’t, wished they would have done it. I love our country for providing such opportunities and think that it evolves you greatly as a person. I love what I study but it can be challenging and scary at times when you face due dates and essays in another language. However, I wanted to study overseas to improve my academic English as I am sure that I want to keep on travelling and work overseas. I think it is easy to delve into reasons to why not do it, but at the end of the day, despite the cost, there is always a way back to Sweden if you would not like it.

If anyone have any questions, I am happy to help!
