Work besides studying

Full degree students can work up to 20 hours per week while studying and full-time during scheduled breaks. For the first 6 months, you can only work on campus. After six months of study, you can apply for an off-campus work permit. They have opportunities on- and off-campus. Students should consult the Live Learn BC website for further info.

Work after graduation (post-completion): Students completing a minimum two-year program of study may remain in Canada to work for up to three years following graduation. More info on the Live Learn BC website.

Campus at Trent University

The beautiful main campus is located about 20 minutes from the center of Peterborough. Therefore, the campus itself is surrounded by the lovely Canadian wilderness, yet the excitement of town is not far away either. The University offers students a wide range of sports activities, as well as free access to the school gym. There are many different varsity and club teams that students can join, such as rowing, rugby, soccer, volleyball, cross-country, dance, water polo and more. No matter what you choose, you will feel a sense of belonging among the campus’ various social, academic, and athletic programs.

Housing at Trent University

Trent University offers student housing in its “Residential Colleges”. You can stay in a single room or in a double room. Meals are included in this university housing contract, so you would not need to shop or cook for yourself. Most European students prefer to find a private residence with other students, but it may be easier to integrate into the student life if you live in the campus residence. Either way, the university offers an orientation for international students with introduction to Canadian life and culture, meet other students from around the world, and learn about the academic transition into Trent. 

Apply to Trent University

We recommend that you apply for admission to Trent University 3-4 months before you hope to begin your studies. Our study advisors can help you with your questions, your application, and all of the practicalities associated with your study.

Trent University requires that all incoming students are at a strong academic level. They will evaluate your application in relation to your previous and current studies in terms of the grades that you earned and the courses that you have chosen.

Trent University requires that all international students demonstrate a certain level of English proficiency. You can qualify by earning a score of 86 or better on the TOEFL iBT language test or a 6.5 or better on the IELTS test. However, each applicant is individually assessed in this regard. It is also possible to qualify based on the level of English that you achieved in high school. 

For students who do not meet the language requirement, there is the opportunity to participate in an "English for University Program " . Entry requirements may vary, so please contact us for more information regarding admission to the program that interests you.
