Travel to Boracay – a small tropical paradise

The small island of Boracay has it all; white, sandy beaches, crystal clear water, delicious mango smoothies, surfing and diving possibilities and a fun nightlife. Even though the island of Boracay is only 7 km long and 1 km wide at the narrowest place, it is the perfect destination for a fun and exciting holiday. Boracay is located about 315 km south of Manila and just 2 km off the northwest tip of Panay Island in the Philippines. The island and its beautiful beaches have received numerous awards from travel publications and we understand why. Boracay is truly a top destination for relaxation and fun adventures.

Beaches of Boracay

White Beach is the main tourism beach and about four kilometres long. Its white sand, turquoise water and swaying palm trees has resulted in several awards. Recently it was named Number One beach in Asia by TripAdvisor! This is also where most tourists on Boracay spend their time. Along the beach, hotels, resorts, restaurants, souvenir shops and lots of bars are trying to persuade tourists to come inside. White Beach is composed of three ‘stations’: Station 1 to the north is where the best and most expensive hotels are. Station 2 is most lively and where people come to eat and shop, whereas Station 3 to the south is much quieter.

Activities on Boracay

Opposite White Beach on the eastern side of the island you’ll find Bulabog Beach. This beach is a hotspot for windsurfing and kiteboarding because of its large waves and strong winds year-round. Actually, Bulabog Beach is considered Asia’s top kitesurf destination.

There are also around 25 diving spots catering to all levels of experience. If you prefer to stay above the sea level you can go parasailing, water-skiing or kitesurfing among other things. Cliff diving is also a very popular activity. Boracay offers a lot more than just sunbathing.

After your day of fun on the water, it’s time for a relaxing massage followed by dinner and drinks. We recommend a visit to the Hobbit House, which is a restaurant/bar with only midgets as wait staff. A fun experience as well as great pasta dishes! The nightlife on Boracay is amazing and you can party till the break of dawn.

Getting to and around Boracay

You can only go to Boracay by sailing to the island. The most popular way is to take a small ferry or boat and sail about 5 minutes from Caticlan on Panay Island. Conveniently, there is also an airport in Caticlan. Since Boracay is so small, it is easy to just walk around on the island or you can take one of the popular tricycle cabs.
