Travel to Cebu - Diving, dining and drinks

Cebu Island is a tropical paradise in The Philippines; consisting of Cebu Island and 167 other islands. Here, you will find a busy metropolis and dreamy beaches, lush rainforest and beautiful landscapes. The island of Cebu is the most densely populated island in The Philippines and has a rich history. There are incredible beaches and spectacular diving off the northern tip of Cebu as well as on the southwest coast. Cebu City is the biggest city and is like a smaller version of Manila; it’s energetic, exciting and fast-paced.

Cebu City

Cebu City is called the “Queen City of the South" and is a popular destination for travellers. It is the second largest, but most important city in The Philippines. The city has many historic landmarks that are worth a visit: Among these are the Taoist Temple, where you can get a unique look at the island’s Chinese heritage. To this day, the Chinese make up a significant part of the population and most people have full or part Chinese ancestry. Surprisingly for such a large metropolis, there are many white sandy beaches surrounding the city. Some are more crowded, while others are almost completely untouched.

Attractions in Cebu City

Rent a bike and cycle to “Tops” which is literally at the top of Mount Busay and get an incredible view of the city. You can also go by taxi, but this is quite expensive as they prey on tourists. Make sure to experience the exciting nightlife in Cebu. There are many bars, pubs, comedy clubs to choose from. In the old quarters of Carlock street you can ride a Tartanilla – a horse drawn carriage. This is a very special and unique experience.

Moalboal

Dining, drinking and diving are on the top of the list of activities to do in Moalboal. On the southwest side of Cebu island about 90 km from Cebu City, Moalboal is a prime destination for the adventurous traveller. There is a multitude of amazing diving and snorkelling spots in Moalboal. At the beautiful White Beach just north of Moalboal you can swim out to the coral reef which is only 30 meters out. And if you travel 20km south of Moalboal you get to the beautiful Kawasan Waterfalls in a lush rainforest. Go early to avoid the crowds though!

Malapascua island

Again, it is world class diving that attracts the majority of visitors of Malapascua and this idyllic island north of Cebu has gorgeous beaches and a joyful population. Diving with thresher sharks is the main highlight here as they congregate in the shallow waters unlike any other place in the world. You can sail to Malapascua from Maya and you don’t have to leave the same day. There are a few hotels and resorts on the island - just remember to book in advance.
