Travel to Las Vegas - party in the desert

Money, money, money. This is what Las Vegas is about, people say. However, you can actually see some beautiful scenery when you leave the glittery casinos and wild parties.

Way out in the Nevada desert, there lies a city built solely for parties and pleasure. When you enter the Las Vegas scene, you won't believe your eyes. The flashing lights, wild parites, and glamourous casinos are dizzying, yet intriguing. In Sin City, you can do almost anything you can imagine. Best of luck to all of you first timers. As they say: "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas".

Viva Las Vegas

Las Vegas is located in the southwest of the Nevada dessert, between California and Arizona. You'll find incredible casinos, entertainment for all tastes, art galleries, museums, very good restaurants, hip clubs with famous DJs and live artists, stand-up shows, and much more. Be prepared for an overwhelming experience. On that note, there are many ways to experience Vegas. You can enjoy the city's luxurious side with super stretch limousines and classy cabaret shows or you can explore the the desert landscapes outside of the city. Don't forget about the hotel pool parties!

The Strip

This is "The Street" in Vegas with huge blinking neon lights and the fanciest casino-hotels. Artificial fountains are everywhere and you can even see an artificial volcano eruption. See the Mirage Casino hotel and experience its exotic rainforest garden. The Adventuredome Theme Park and the tropical Flamingo Wildlife Habitat are also located on the Strip. Don’t miss these!

The Stratosphere Casino, Hotel, and Tower is also a fun experience while on The Strip. Here, you can leave all of your worries behind and have fun with the many entertainment venues. Enjoy the spectacular views and dine in the rotating restaurant. For the romantics, take the lift all the way to the top of the tower and enjoy a cocktail in the so-called Romance At The Top of the World Lounge.

The casino shows go on everyday. If you want to see an astonishing turquoise canal built in the middle of a shopper's paradise, visit The Venetian casino-hotel. You can even take a gondola ride if you get bored with shopping. There's a variety of live shows here too. For more "mini cities", check out New York-New York, Paris Las Vegas, and the Luxor - each hotel is like an alternate world!

There are lots of other outdoor activities the city's nearby areas. About 80 kilometers northwest of Vegas is the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and the Lee Canyon ski resort. About 40 kilometers west of Vegas is the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area with great trekking trails and beautiful sandstone sceneries. Climbers also love this place. Camping is allowed in the whole Conservation area.

If you travel about 50 kilometers east of Vegas, you'll reach Lake Mead. This is a great place to do waterskiing, scuba diving, or sunbathing on one of the various beaches around the shores of the lake.

The Grand Canyon is the ultimate must-see, however. Take a helicopter or small plane ride to enjoy the amazing views. You will truly never know the beauty of this vast landmark until you see it with your own eyes.

When to go

The quietest time is between November and February. If you want good partying, go at Thanksgiving or for New Year's Eve. Mid-summer is the hottest time of the year in Vegas - and that means serious sweat! You'll see the great Poker World Series game if you visit in April. This is held in the Binion's Horseshoe casino.

Moving around

The center of Las Vegas is compact and easily navigated, but the distances are surprisingly long. Therefore, make sure you'll have enough time to walk around and see all of the coolest sites. You can use trams, the monorail, and the well-working bus network. Taxis and private shuttles are available too. When heading away from the city, it is a good idea to rent a car. You can get into Vegas on the Greyhound bus from the nearest major cities, but Las Vegas also has an international airport. Many of KILROY’s adventure tours stop in Las Vegas and its surroundings!

There are free gambling lessons in some casinos. For a really romantic night, head to the Stratosphere tower for cocktails in the Romance At The Top of the World lounge.
