Great nights out in London 

Your time in London isn’t complete without a night out in Peckham. Head to Bar Story and you’ll find an arty crowd milling amongst vintage furniture and amazingly priced drinks. Don’t miss out on happy hour, usually from 18:00-19:00 when you can get two cocktails at a cheap price! Bounce in Holborn is one of the top destinations for table tennis revival and you can eat, drink and play to your heart’s content. Evenings get packed so don’t forget to book.

Top tips for students in London

Home to the White Cube gallery and the Fashion and Textile Museum, Bermondsey is fast becoming one of south London’s hippest hangouts. When you’ve exhausted its collections head to The Woolpack Pub for a well-earned drink. If you’re not afraid of heights, sign up for an early morning yoga class on the new glass walkway at Tower Bridge. With fantastic views and peaceful surroundings, it’s the perfect place to zone out before your lectures. 

Shopping and sightseeing for students in London

If you’re into vintage clothing, East London will be like heaven. On and around Brick Lane you’ll find trendy shopping spots. If you’re on London Met Holloway Campus, head to Revive for awesome second hand bargains. Regent’s Canal is lined with lively cafes, bars and shops – walk along the river path at the weekend for some fresh air or enjoy a beer in a rowing boat (yes, they’re anchored) at Crate Brewery near Hackney Wick.

Free activities for students in London

  1. Art Galleries: Tate Modern and Tate Britain are exceptional national art galleries. Other major London art galleries include the National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square. 
  2. London Parks & Gardens: See and experience Queen Mary's Rose Gardens or visit Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens (side by side). 
  3. Changing of the Guard: The Queen's Guard in London changes in the Forecourt inside the gates of Buckingham Palace at 11:30 every day in the summer and every other day in the winter. 
  4. Trafalgar Square: This iconic square has many sights to see including Nelson's Column and the National Gallery. It is both a tourist attraction and the main focus for political demonstrations.
  5. Street Markets: London is well-known for its popular street markets. The most popular are Camden Market and Portobello Market, closely followed by Greenwich Market.
  6. Westminster Abbey: You can see inside Westminster Abbey for free. The Abbey never charges people who want to worship but they rely on admission fees from visitors to cover running costs. 
  7. Free Music: Southbank Centre has lots of free music and other events and there is Free foyer concerts at the National Theatre, also on the South Bank.

London, like the rest of the UK, has a seasonal climate. The average summer temperature (July) high is 24 °C and average winter temperature (February) low is 2.4°C
