Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: La Paz Airport Drop-off - Flight to Rurrenabaque
Today you will be picked-up from your accommodation to be transferred to La Paz Airport to catch an early flight to Rurrenabaque, where there will be someone waiting for you to take you to your accommodation for check-in. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure settling in this new climate. Overnight in Rurrenabaque.
Day 2: Boat Trip - Sugarcane Community - Eco-Lodge - Afternoon & Night Walk (B/L/D)
The tour starts at around 09.00, when you will set off on a boat trip along the Beni and Tuichi Rivers for approximately 3 hours until reaching a local community where the main economic activity is producing "miel de caña”, a type of honey made from sugarcane. From here you will continue by boat to the eco-lodge where you will be met and greeted with a refreshing drink made from local fruits. After being shown to your room, have lunch and a chance to rest in the hammocks away from the midday heat, listening to the sounds of the jungle. In the afternoon, take a nature walk along a jungle trail with a guide who will show you a variety of plants used by the local Tacana people. Your guide will briefly explain their medicinal purposes, how locals consume these plants for food and use them for construction. Along this trail there is the chance to see a number of different animals including spider monkeys, howler monkeys, wild pigs and a number of different birds, plus a variety of insects and spiders. After returning to the lodge, enjoy your evening meal as the nighttime sounds of the jungle come alive and the darkness falls. After eating we can take a night walk to search for nocturnal animals and look for caimans near the river bank using spotlights to reflect off their eyes.
Day 3: Farallon of the Macaws - Self Made Raft Sailing - Optional Activities (B/L/D)
After breakfast you will visit the Farallon of the Macaws, a place for nesting and feeding of guacamayos and parrots. It is also one of the best places to watch and enjoy the beautiful view of the Amazon rainforest. Also you will have the opportunity to build a ‘’callapo’’, raft of the Amazonian tribes, and sail back in it to the lodge, where you’ll have lunch. We will also have a boat for security, for backpacks and for those who do not wish to sail on the self made raft. In the afternoon you will be able to choose among different activities (some activities may depend on availability), like visiting an indigenous family to see their way of life in the middle of the forest, sport fishing of catfish, or sailing to watch the sunset.
Day 4: Jungle to Pampas - Sailing the Yacuma River - Swim with Pink Dolphins (B/L/D)
Today you will wake up at 6am to have breakfast and return to Rurrenabaque. On arrival, meet with a comfortable jeep and travel for approximately 3 hours to Santa Rosa. Along the way you will have the opportunity to see sloths, ant eaters, birds, and other animals. Around midday you will go on a 15-minute boat ride to “The Turtles” eco-lodge, where you will get settled in and have lunch. In the afternoon go sailing on the Yacuma river, where you get to see and take pictures of lizards, caimans, birds, capibaras, turtles, and much more. Before going back to the lodge, you might be able to swim with the beautiful pink dolphins that live in this heavenly place (depending on season).
Day 5: Morning Yacuma River Sailing - Pampas to Rurrenabaque - Flight to La Paz (B/L)
Wake up at 5 am this morning to watch the sunrise and listen to the pampa awakening, a concert of screaming monkeys and different birds. After breakfast go sailing on the Yacuma river in search of the impressive anaconda, and have the chance to see birds, capibaras, caimans, turtles, and other animals. After the tour, gather your belongings for your return boat ride to Santa Rosa harbour and a jeep ride back to Rurrenabaque airport to catch your return flight to La Paz, where this amazing adventure will come to an end.
Important: Since flights can be unreliable returning to La Paz, we recommend planning to leave La Paz at least two days after the trip ends in case flights from Rurrenabaque are delayed 24 hours.
* Accommodation in private cabin lodges (double or triple) with private bathrooms in Pampas, shared bathroom in Madidi - mosquito nets, beds, sheet/cover.
* Vegetarian meals available if pre-requested.
* Suggested Packing List: Comfortable walking shoes, swimsuit, towel, sun hat, sunblock, sunglasses, personal items, personal medications, small day pack, water bottle, camera, charger.
* This day to day itinerary is subject to change without prior notice according to climatic and river conditions.
* Wildlife viewing is subject to climatic conditions and the wild nature of the animals. We cannot guarantee wildlife viewing while you are in the Amazon since it depends on the animals. During wet season chances of seeing animals greatly reduces as the river is high and animals tend to spread out among the pampas. Please also note that the chance of sighting snakes/anacondas is always about 50%.
* Bring enough cash with you before leaving La Paz since ATMs in Rurrenabaque are not reliable.
