Bring the family on a trip less ordinary

We know the convenience of traveling 2 weeks south when you bring the kids on a holiday. We're not shaming, we've all been there.

BUT, if you're looking for something more adventurous, more exotic and less ordinary, we have some suggestions for you. Let the baby sleep in a hammock to the sound of the waves hitting the beach, let your teen son play football with the locals in Zanzibar or opt in for day hike through the jungles in Costa Rica. An experience that Kids' Clubs and Pool Aerobics can't beat.

Bring the kids on an unforgettable trip The KILROY Way.

10 great destinations for families

If you're looking for an adventurous family trip, here's 10 great destinations you should consider. Our reasoning for choosing these are accessibility in terms of flights that are not too complicated, infrastructure when traveling around and experiences that families can enjoy without too much hassle. They are listed in no particular order.

  • Bali (It's easy to get there, easy to travel around the island, a hotspot for tourists for years but still with adventurous feel if you leave the most touristed areas).
    • Recommended age for kids: All ages
    • Recommended duration: 2, 3 or 4 weeks.

  • Malaysia (Often overlooked. Infrastructure works like a charm. Beautiful landscapes and lots of hidden gems)
    • Recommended age for kids: 6-18
    • Recommended duration: 2, 3 or 4 weeks.

  • Thailand (Easy, convenient and exotic. Food is amazing, so is the hospitality and the islands. And the National parks. And the... you get the point. The kids will love it)
    • Recommended age for kids: All ages
    • Recommended duration: 2, 3 or 4 weeks.
  • Costa Rica (A great mix of national parks with amazing wildlife and beach vibes in cozy small surfer villages. Easy to get around and you don't have to travel massive distances which we know will leave the kids frustrated and tired)
    • Recommended age for kids: All ages
    • Recommended duration: 2, 3 or 4 weeks.
  • Philippines (Island hopping in the Philippines will give you an amazing and varied experience. Some islands boasts amazing beaches, some boasts incredible highlands and some boasts both. Philippines is very cheap which makes the family trip affordable)
    • Recommended age for kids: All ages
    • Recommended duration: 2, 3 or 4 weeks.
  • Australia (We'd recommend Australia for the 3-4 week trips (and preferably more). It's a long travel Down Under - especially with kids, but definitely worth it. Rent a camper and travel up or down the East Coast in your own pace. Pause when the kids are tired of driving)
    • Recommended age for kids: All ages (but bear in mind to book a good flight combination)
    • Recommended duration: 3-4 or 4+ weeks.
  • New Zealand (Again, we recommend 3-4 weeks (and preferably more) if you want to visit NZ. Incredible landscapes and easy to do a self-drive in either car or camper. Enjoy the views! NB: Make sure to find flights that accommodate for the kids' sleeping rhythms)
    • Recommended age for kids: All ages (but bear in mind to book a good flight combination)
    • Recommended duration: 3-4 or 4+ weeks.
  • Vietnam (Travel South to North or vice versa. Busses are reliable and it's easy to combine light adventure with relaxation and the cherry on the cake is the food - yum!)
    • Recommended age for kids: 4-18
    • Recommended duration: 2, 3 or 4 weeks.
  • Japan (An increasingly popular destination for families in the later years. You can roam around with train or even rent a campervan and do a self-drive. Visit iconic landmarks, temples and theme parks)
    • Recommended age for kids: 7-18
    • Recommended duration: 2, 3 or 4 weeks.
  • South Africa (Kids and animals. Nothing more exciting that seeing the giraffe up close - it's as simple as that.)
    • Recommended age for kids: 7-18
    • Recommended duration: 2, 3 or 4 weeks.

This is of course just a sample of great places to go on a 2-4 week trip. Not what you're looking for? Fair enough, and we can of course also help you travel somewhere else.
